Recovery From Injury

No matter how careful we are, how much warming up or cooling down, how much stretching, prehab & rehab we do, all of us will pick up an injury from time to time.

Injuries can happen while training, competing, or simply walking down the road and rolling our ankle on the curb. The human body is a complex organism that is prone to the bumps and bruises of everyday life.

Most of the common injuries we pick up are to the body's soft tissues. Soft tissues connect and support other tissues and surround the organs in the body. The most common soft tissues injured are tendons, ligaments and muscles.

Recovery From Exercise

The volume, intensity, and duration of your workout/training session all play a role in determining how taxing it is on your body. After a relatively light workout, your muscles may be able to recover in 24 hours, whereas a more challenging workout might take two to three days. Very intense workouts might take even longer.

Your body type, fitness goals, and current level of fitness all play a role in determining the best way to recover for you. Keep in mind that the following tips are meant to give you ideas of how you can improve your muscle recovery, but they aren’t meant to be a comprehensive list that you need to follow point for point… recovery is very personal.

Stress is the body's reaction to feeling threatened or under pressure. It's very common, and small amounts of stress can be helpful… motivating us to achieve things in our daily life. But too much stress can affect our mood, our body and our relationships – especially when it feels out of our control. It can make us feel anxious and irritable, and affect our self-esteem.

Experiencing a lot of stress over a long period of time can also lead to a feeling of physical, mental and emotional exhaustion, often called burnout.

Training outdoors exposes our skin to many environmental factors that will all have an impact on our skin. From ultraviolet exposure, wind, rain, and extreme hot or cold conditions, through to exposure to air pollutants and our very own sweat… our skin is taking a battering everyday.
